Walkthrough Guide

Step 1: To explore a single district in detail, click on its name in the first column of the table. For example, click Los Angeles Unified. This will highlight the row and send a summary of its graduation rate, student-teacher ratio, and test scores into the blue message box above. Use this to quickly pull out the key story for any district without scanning the entire table.

Step 2: To compare districts, scroll through the table and look at the highlighted categories such as low-income percentage, graduation rate, and SAT scores. Try comparing Glendale Unified with Compton Unified. Clicking this step will highlight both rows and point you to the message box for a side-by-side explanation. This is useful for spotting contrasts between higher-income and lower-income districts.

Step 3: For definitions of the column headings (like STR, FRC, or Exp/Stud), click on a heading at the top of the table. For example, click on FRC. A definition box will fade in underneath the heading, so you’ll know exactly what the numbers mean before comparing districts. This is helpful if you’re new to the data.
